DANCING TO HIS BEAT

The piano is a widely recognized instrument for its beautiful sound.  Each key has a different range, from soft to strong.  One would think the greater the force, the louder the sound. Actually, it’s not the applied pressure that determines the volume, but the speed with which the keys are depressed.  In addition, relaxed hands tend to give you more control and produce a better sound.

Although some are gifted and can play the piano without acquiring any lessons, there are those; like myself who are challenged.  During my first lesson, I was amazed to find that when you sit down to a piano; there is a correct posture for your hands, arms and feet. I have dispelled the myth that you cannot study this instrument while sitting on the couch.

Learning to play the piano made me ponder the notes that are played in our lives. Each of us encounter similar circumstances but are affected to various degrees.  I considered what kind of sound do I make when I’m in the midst of a trying situation.  Am I striking or stroking, is my situation throwing me out of control or am I relaxing and trusting in God.

There are symbols in sheet music that call for pauses in play, called “rests.” Sometimes we may need to pause, readjust our posture and catch up to what God is doing.   The secret to dancing to His beat is much like learning to play the piano, though practice makes perfect; it is the practicing that perfects us.

Each finger as well as one’s hands have to cooperate with one another. There is an order, one of leading and following at the same time.  But if we don’t give up, but discover how to let God guide our fingers; He will enable our lives to produce a beautiful piece of music.
