Menopause is the time in a woman's life when she stops having menstrual periods.  It is a natural process and is not considered a sign of ill health or a death sentence.   During menopause a woman's estrogen and progesterone levels decrease. This process triggers a series of emotional and physical symptoms. The symptoms are different for each woman, but may include depression, sleep problems, hot flashes, moodiness, irritability and weight gain. Unfortunately woman who go through menopause are less likely to be physically active and have a higher chance of developing ailments related to an inactive lifestyle.   It is very important that you visit your physician, eat a balanced diet that contains enough calcium and exercise regularly.  All three of these will assist you in taking good care of yourself and decrease the severity of your symptoms.                  For more information visit:  http://www.webmd.com/menopause/default.htm

CHOICES

Today the word CHOICE caught my attention 3 times.   So I looked in the Webster Dictionary and choice is defined as the act or power of choosing. This reminded me of Luke 8: 43-48 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, 44 Came behind Jesus, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.  45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?  46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.   47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.   48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in p

Dancing With God

Image
When I meditated on the word   Guidance, I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word. I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing. When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn't flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky. When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music. One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another. It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully. The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other. My eyes drew back to the word   Guidance.. When I saw "G": I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i". "God, "u" and "i" dance." God, you, and I dance. As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust that I would get   guidance about my life.

35 Symptoms of Menopause on the Wall

Image
As promised the 35 Symptoms of Menopause are posted below, but first I must share this story with you.  Believe it or not it is a true story. In preparation for the upcoming Book Launch Celebration, I pumped myself up to clean (5) four pound bags of chicken wingettes.  I turned the TV on for giggles and a show called ‘The Closer’ was on.  With my hands were full of feathers, I couldn't get over to turn the channel; so this would be my first time watching an entire episode (kidding about the feathers). In this particular episode, the Deputy Chief of Police, Brenda Leigh Johnson; played by Kyra Sedgwick had not been feeling good for months.  She goes to the doctors and the preliminary diagnosis shocks her.  The doctor suggested that her symptoms are possibly those of early onset menopause, but they must conduct more tests to be sure.   Toward the end of the show, her boyfriend tried to tell her that her symptoms are …and she hushed him.  She didn’t want to talk about it, you

The Finish Line

The article from January 2, 2011 ‘Fit To Be Used’; reminds me of an athlete and how they train and prepare for a sports event.  They not only make adjustments emotionally, mentally and physically; but also nutritionally.  An athlete submits to a carefully planned program with only one goal in mind – reaching the finish line. And so it should be with Menopause.  If we can change our mindset from what we can’t do, to working with what we can do, we will see that even in the midst of Menopause; we can still enjoy life.   Some ask what is menopause, others question how will my body change as menopause approaches and my favorite; why me? What is menopause? Menopause is a normal, natural event—defined as the final menstrual period and usually confirmed when a woman has missed her periods for 12 consecutive months (in the absence of other obvious causes). Menopause is associated with reduced functioning of the ovaries due to aging, resulting in lower levels of estrogen and other hormones. I

Fit To Be Used

Image
Name one thing many of us have in common on New Year’s Eve? You got it a list of resolutions: from joining the gym, to eating healthier, kicking the habit of smoking and/or drinking, going back to school, a better paying job or better yet-finding a job, getting out of debt, visiting a place you’ve never been before or maybe even writing a book. A New Year resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a personal goal, project, or the reforming of a habit. This lifestyle change is generally interpreted as advantageous. A New Years Resolution is generally a goal someone sets out to accomplish in the coming year. As I sat down to write, I tossed up so many topics in my mind. But there was one that I could not shake. In a conversation with my aunt the other day, she said the theme for 2011 is ‘Fit To Be Used’. Their focus will be on Health and Discipleship.    According to the Webster dictionary, health is defined as the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit.
